In November of 2024, Craig Laughlin, current TV analyst for The Washington Capitals on Monumental SportsNetwork and former NHL player, was diagnosed with a bicuspid aortic valve, a congenital heart condition. Laughlin will be undergoing open heart surgery in early February 2025 to repair his bicuspid valve, as well as a few other heart issues that were detected and found. He will miss several weeks of the Capitals season as he recovers from his surgery.
“Locker,” as known by Caps fans, along with his broadcast partner Joe Beninati, have been calling Capitals games together since the early 1990’s and are the longest tendered broadcasting duo in the NHL.
“LockerStrong” was inspired by the fans, and is not only a way to show support for Locker as he heads into and recovers from surgery, but it’s a way to raise awareness for heart disease and help raise funds for the American Heart Association. Locker’s surgery is scheduled for early February, which also coincides with Heart Health Awareness Month.
Proceeds from all t-shirts purchased will support the American Heart Association.
